INTRODUCTION:

If you are thinking of going to university in the future and want to prepare yourself full to increase your chances for success this is the course for you. Develop your skills and knowledge in research academic writing, problem solving and thinking so that when you take up your place in higher education you are armed with all the necessary requirements to succeed.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 4. Mature students are exempt from Leaving Certificate requirement.
  • CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English.
  • All applicants will undergo a processing stage during which further information will be gathered in relation to their application.
  • An offer of a place on this course is contingent on the applicant meeting the entry requirements set out here and satisfactory completion of the processing stage.

September to May.

€300 including QQI examination fees (Medical card holders exempt €50). Payment plans are available. See fees & payment for details.

COURSE CONTENT

Research & Study Skills - 5N3113

The purpose of this module is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to effectively engage with research and to present learning for formal academic and other purposes.

Work Experience - 5N1356

Word Processing - 5N1358

Learn to produce professional mailable document. Learn file management and a host of functions including clipart, headers, footers, watermarks, graphics, tabs etc.

Maths - 5N1833

Learn to apply mathematics in a variety of real life situations. To enable the learner to acquire mathematical skill in problem solving and mathematical investigations in the following areas: mathematical modelling, statistics and probability, graphing functions, differential and integral calculus, complex numbers and trigonometry.

Communications - 5N0690

Acquire writing skills, learn to speak fluently and coherently in a professional setting, develop interpersonal skills and have an understanding of the impact of ICT on society.

Personal Effectiveness - 5N1390

Reflect on your own personal role in a workplace including the skills needed for your job, personal strengths and weaknesses and the people issues and work practices which influence how you do your work.

Desktop Publishing - 5N0785

The 5N0785 Desktop Publishing course aims to equip learners with the skills to create various documents combining text and graphic images. Students will master how to use a Desktop Publishing (DTP) system, starting from understanding design briefings to the final printing process. On completion of the course learners will have gained the skills required to produce a range of visually appealing documents, ensuring a professional presentation.
