Course Information:
This course is designed to promote good practice among those who work (in a paid or voluntary capacity) with young people and communities who are affected by various issues.

Learning Outcomes
This academic course aims to provide a critical perspective on some of the issues that affect young people and their communities and encourages the development of coherent responses at individual and organisational level. The components (Understanding Community Development and Substance Use Issues) should support the ability of learners to work safely and effectively in youth and / or community work settings. This educational focused programme also aims to provide the participants with the necessary knowledge regarding applicable supports systems, both within and outside their communities.

Progression:
Students can apply for courses such as Social Care Courses, BA in Community Development and the UCC Substance Misuse & Addiction Studies DIP Course on successful completion of these modules.
Accreditation: QQI Level 5 Component Certificates in Understanding Community Development and Substance Use Issues.

The Diploma in Health Services Management for Nurses is a professional programme, aimed at those who wish to position themselves in more senior managerial posts within the Nursing and Health Services fields. Registered Nurses and Midwives will receive Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann post registration Category 1 approval.

Course Content:

  • Management in a Healthcare Setting
  • Principles, theory, change management & application
  • Career Management: Nursing Competence Management

  • Risk Assessment & Stress Management
  • Leadership Development & New Emerging Leadership behaviours

This course is mainly lecture based with workshops and seminars given by health professionals to help develop personal skills. The assessment process consists of two coursework assignments carried out over the year of study.

Entry Requirements: Qualifications

It is the learner’s responsibility to ensure that they have the relevant qualification for entry into the course. Applicants must be graduates of the Certificate in Management for Nursing Staff (VEC Certificate) or BSc in Nursing. Evidence of qualifications and NMBI pin must be produced on the first night of class.

Graduates of the programme will be able to

  • apply their practical knowledge to the disciplines of Management, Health Promotion, Financial and Personal Development
  • Provide themselves with a sound educational framework for senior management positions and further study
  • Develop personal skills in preparation for a changing work environment.
  • Develop an understanding for their role in the delivery of healthcare in Ireland

This course is delivered through a Remote Teaching approach.

Students must have basic IT Skills.
