Learn how the 4 Ps; product, price, place and promotion work together in today’s digital environment to give the customer what they want. Students participate in Institute events and site visits. The course is enhanced throughout, with added value, as Google Analytics, Google Adwords and Video Editing are integrated into the subjects that you will study.

  • Advertising 5N0748 – Look at research and marketing strategy in concept development and presentation  and the importance of planning the advertising campaign. Compare the use of traditional with digital media in promoting brands in advertising. Explain the role of the Advertising Standards Authority and other agencies in the industry.
  • Behavioural Studies 5N1351 – Examine the role of organisational psychology in understanding the situation of the buyer in the marketing environment. Explain core psychological concepts, e.g .attitudes, culture, socialisation, the influence of groups on behaviour and the importance of the role of family on behaviour.
  • Web Authoring 5N1910 Build professional websites using HTML, CSS, WordPress and video editing techniques.
  • Statistics 5N2066 – Understand data, data collection and compile statistical information. Identify and implement appropriate means of presenting data. Analyse and interpret statistical information and learn how to use statistics for work and life
  • Entrepreneurial Skills 5N1951 – Learn the skills relevant to the theory and practice of entrepreneurship and adopt an entrepreneurial approach to business and or social innovation activities, operating independently while under general direction.
  • Digital Marketing 5N1364 – Choose appropriate e-tools to implement a digital marketing strategy. Plan a digital marketing campaign from inception to completion. Evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns using analytical e-tools. Outline the stages of analysis, development, implementation and control of digital marketing campaigns. Use e-tools including web analytics, social media monitoring, social bookmarking to monitor digital marketing campaigns.
  • Marketing Practice 5N1400 – Conduct a SWOT analysis. Develop a marketing plan for a specific product or service. Examine the life cycle of a range of products including new product development. Explain the elements of the marketing mix. Carry out market research applying appropriate techniques and research methodologies.
  • Event Production 5N1374 – the learner will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to organise and produce an event working independently and with others as part of a team.
  • Work Experience 5N1356 – Planning, preparation and reflection on work placement. Job finding strategies, CV and personal statement preparation, interview skills. Practise employability skills with a view to future planning.

Additional Training/Workshops

  • Entrepreneurial Skills: This workshop gives learners an introduction to the area of Entrepreneurship.  The course includes a definition of an Entrepreneur, characteristics and common traits of an Entrepreneur and barriers to Entrepreneurship.  Additionally, the advantages to Entrepreneurship will be outlined and finally aids and assistance that will help Entrepreneurs will be discussed.
  • Microsoft Outlook: The Microsoft Outlook workshop demonstrates how to use the internet to compose, send, receive and store electronic mail to include attaching a file to an email and managing email folders.  It also facilitates the learner to explore areas related to browser-based email systems including demonstrating the use of at least one current email software package for example: compose, send, receive, reply, forward, print, store electronic messages and open file attachments, attach a file to an email message and create and manage mailboxes and transfer messages to and from relevant mailboxes.  Furthermore, learners develop an appreciation of email etiquette as regards: content, length, style and tone of composed messages and they set up a web-based email account
  • Video Editing: This workshop gives the learner some basic skills in video editing. The content includes how to import clips, set up a project, and get everything organised ready to cut and the correct ways to cut a clip.  Furthermore, adding cutaways, music and adding text and graphics is explained. Finally, the optimum settings for exporting the finished piece are included.
  • Data Protection: This Data Protection Workshop gives learners an overview of GDPR. The workshop examines what GDPR stands for and gives an understanding of the current data protection rules and obligations.  The learners also receive information on the types of data, the terminology associated with GDPR, the penalties with breaches, storage of data and general do’s and don’ts regarding data.
  • Google Adwords and Display Advertising: Google Ads is one of the largest online advertising platforms in the world and controls 75% of the search share. The workshop focuses on the different types of Google Ads and how to choose the right Ad for you and your business, creating Ads, Google Ads account structure, Budget and Keywords, Ad Strategy and Tracking your campaign. The practical focuses on utilise Google Ads Keyword Planner tool for keyword research and budget forecasting.
  • Google Analytics and Social Advertising: This workshop aims to give an overview of Google Analytics (GA). The objective is to understand the three core areas of Google Analytics; Audience, Acquisition and Behaviour and their correlation to the purchase funnel, we look at how GA works (tracking codes), Data Collection, Account structure, Navigating the site,  Reporting and real life examples of how GA can provide information on how users are interacting with your website and therefore performing. The theory is applied the practical part of the workshop.

Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 4. Mature students are exempt from Leaving Certificate requirement. All applicants will undergo a processing stage during which further information will be gathered in relation to their application.  An offer of a place on this course is contingent on the applicant meeting the entry requirements set out here and satisfactory completion of the processing stage.

    I will be forever grateful for my time at Cork College of Commerce. Over the two years I spent at the College, I developed an array of skills which I had to chance to apply through work experience in the likes of AM O Sullivan PR, EIL Ireland and The Everyman Theatre.

    I was also given the opportunity to take part in the Pitstop Leadership Programme and, along with a classmate, put together a hugely successful event during our second year which was to raise fund for the Cork City Hospitals Children’s Club.

    My time in the College gave me the guidance and information I needed to find the right next steps for my education. It is because of them I am currently studying in UCC the innovative BA in Digital Humanities and Information Technology, a course I would never have known about if it wasn’t for the highly supportive staff of Cork College of Commerce.
