INTRODUCTION
If you think that you would like to be working in the admin hub at the frontline in any organisation, then this course was designed for you. Learn all of the key skills required to be the ‘go to’ person in a busy organisational hub, reception area or to be the sole admin member in a smaller business.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 4.
- Mature students are exempt from Leaving Certificate requirement.
- CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English.
- All applicants are interviewed.
- An offer of a place on this course is contingent on the applicant meeting the requirements set out here and satisfactory presentation at interview.

- QQI Level 5 Certificate in Business Administration 5M2468.
- QQI Component Maths 5N1833 (available as option in the evening, in Morrison’s Island Campus, for learners requiring Maths for progression).
COURSE CONTENT
Business Administration Skills - 5N1610
Examine a range of recruitment options for selecting and appointing staff and current employment rights legislation. Maintain a range of documents pertaining to HR management and employees including employment contracts, attendance records etc. Explore sources of finance for a business including cash-flow. Examine different types of meetings held and complete a range of documentation necessary for the effective function of a meeting. Explain the role of quality systems.
English as a Second Language - 5N1632
Improve your use of the English language and learn a wide range of language skills, both oral and written for a variety of situations such as social and work environments.
Spreadsheet Methods - 5N1977
Produce a spreadsheet that meets a simple design specification and is fit for purpose. Learn a range of spreadsheet features such as data and cell formatting techniques, conditional IF statements, financial, date and time functions. Generate a variety of types of graphs from spreadsheet data. Automate routine multi-step tasks through the creation, execution and management of simple macros.
Work Experience - 5N1356
Planning, preparation and reflection on work placement. Job finding strategies, CV and personal statement preparation, interview skills. Practise employability skills with a view to future planning.
Word Processing - 5N1385
Learn to produce professional mailable document. Learn file management and a host of functions including clipart, headers, footers, watermarks, graphics, tabs etc.
Bookkeeping Manual and Computerised - 5N1354
Learn to record business transactions, post to ledgers and draw up a trial balance using both a manual accounting system and a computerised package.
Digital Presentations - 5N0653
Design, create and deliver a presentation to include Clip art, video clips, hyperlinks, animation effects and apply transitions and timings for slides. Evaluate the implications of the choice of venue to include lighting, room size, power points, audience size etc.
Communications - 5N0690
Acquire writing skills, learn to speak fluently and coherently in a professional setting, develop interpersonal skills and have an understanding of the impact of ICT on society.
ADDITIONAL TRAINING / WORKSHOPS
- Introduction to GDPR (online) – This workshop gives learners an overview of GDPR. The workshop examines what GDPR stands for and gives an understanding of the current data protection rules and obligations. The learners also receive information on the types of data, the terminology associated with GDPR, the penalties with breaches, storage of data and general do’s and don’ts regarding data. A Macroom Campus Certificate is issued on completion.
- Microsoft Outlook (online) – This Microsoft Outlook workshop will give information on accessing your college email, Outlook layout, how to send and receive emails, attaching/downloading a file and reply options. It also covers organising your emails – folders etc., Outlook settings, signature, out-of-office reply, using the calendar, setting up meetings, setting up reminders and to do lists. A Macroom Campus Certificate is issued on completion.
- Digital Marketing (online) – A basic introduction to the world of Digital Marketing. A Macroom Campus Certificate is issued on completion.

Mastering the Professional phone conversation (online) – This workshop gives the learner the knowledge and skills when answering the telephone professionally in the workplace. Additionally, handling telephone complaints and ending calls is also covered. A Macroom Campus Certificate is issued on completion.

What hours are involved?
Our courses are full-time, classes are timetabled Monday to Friday.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through coursework (for example projects, assignments, learner records), these are done throughout the year. There will be some written/practical exams held at the end April/start May.
Are there job opportunities?
There are very good job opportunities in this area. There are numerous past students working in the area of administration.
Will I get a place in a 3rd level course, if I do this course?
Many of our students each year progress to 3rd level courses. All progressions are available on the college website. However, there is no guarantee of a place. Students apply through the CAO using their QQI level 5 results, students need to work hard in order to achieve the best possible results.
WORK PLACEMENT / EXPERIENCE
Students undertake work placement one day per week in an office/business environment. Work placement is a highly valued component of the student experience here at the college. An excellent opportunity for you to gain insight into the world of work. Students are encouraged to source their own Work Placement.
