  • Exercise & Fitness 5N2668: Equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in a variety of forms of physical exercise, to enable the learner to design, implement and evaluate exercise and fitness programmes in a variety of contexts in line with best practice.

  • Nutrition 5N2006 – Understand the importance of healthy eating and its benefits to good health. Identify components of a healthy diet for all age groups and devise a menu for each. Appreciate the role of food and its significance in the management of various conditions and diseases. Interpret the nutrition labels on a variety of food products in accordance with EU regulations.
  • Behavioural Studies 5N1351 – Examine the role of organisational psychology in understanding the situation of the worker in the working environment. Explain core psychological concepts, e.g.attitudes, culture, socialisation, the influence of groups on behaviour and the importance of the role of family on behaviour. Describe the process of human perception from birth.
  • Reflexology 5N5371 – the purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to provide reflexology treatments for the purposes of relaxation and the relief of stress in order to encourage general health and wellbeing, under appropriate supervision.
  • Indian Head Massage 6N3477 –Indian Head Massage one of the oldest forms of Head massage working on the client upper body, head, and face, using specific massage techniques.
  • Anatomy and Physiology 5N0749 – learn the structure of the various systems within the human body e.g. digestive, system, respiratory system, nervous system, skeletal system etc. and how they work.  Develop an understanding of the interrelationships that exit between these systems.

Additional Training 

  • Data Protection (online training): This course gives learners an overview of GDPR. The course examines what GDPR stands for and gives an understanding of the current data protection rules and obligations.  The learners also receive information on the types of data, the terminology associated with GDPR, the penalties with breaches, storage of data and general do’s and don’ts regarding data. A record of achievement from Morrison’s Island Campus is issued on successful completion.

Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 4. Mature students are exempt from Leaving Certificate requirements. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English.  All applicants will undergo a processing stage during which further information will be gathered in relation to their application.  An offer of a place on this course is contingent on the applicant meeting the entry requirements set out here and satisfactory completion of the processing stage.

  • Duration: September to May

  • Certification: 
    • QQI Level 5 Certificate in Community Health Services 5M4468.
    • QQI component Maths 5N1833 and Statistics 5N2066 (available as an option in the evening for learners requiring Maths or Statistics for progression).
  • Work Experience: Students undertake a block work placement of 2 weeks in a health related environment or in the wellbeing department of a company.

    Having completed QQI level 5 Health and Wellbeing Adviser course, I can say this course equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to work in my chosen area. It has also helped me get future in my education as I am currently in QQI level 6 Advanced Psychosocial Awareness & Training course and got me one step closer to my dream job. This course covers all aspects of health ranging from physical to mental health. Each topic was clearly explained within the classroom.
