FAQ – Applied Social Studies with Psychology

The course is full time and runs Monday to Thursday potentially from 9-5pm and on Fridays from 9-2pm.  There are 21 hours of classes, so you may have a late morning or an early evening in the week and time off during the day for study/working on assignments.

How is the course assessed?2022-12-12T13:36:18+00:00

The course is assessed through a combination of coursework (projects, assignments, learner records and portfolios) which is done throughout the year and four written exams held at the end April/start May.

The course fees are €300 (€250 if you have a medical card).

Will I get a place in a 3rd level course if I do this course?2022-12-12T13:48:46+00:00

Many of our students each year progress to 3rd level courses.  However, there is no guarantee of a place.   Students apply through the CAO using their QQI level 5 results therefore students need to work hard in order to achieve the best possible results.  There are limited progression places available so achieving the best results you can is critical to your success.

Can I progress to Applied Psychology in UCC from Applied Social Studies with Psychology?2022-12-12T13:38:22+00:00

No, if you are interested in applying for Applied Psychology in UCC then you need to do our QQI L5 Applied Psychology course as that includes Statistics which is an entry requirement for UCC.  However the entry requirements are different so please check those before applying.

Will I do work experience as part of the course?2022-12-12T13:39:05+00:00

Yes, you will complete a two week block of work experience.  You can source your own placement or the college will assist you to secure a placement.  The placement needs to involve working with vulnerable people so a variety of settings are possible.

Do I require Garda vetting for this course?2022-12-12T13:39:42+00:00

Yes, Garda vetting is required as you will be working with vulnerable persons on your work experience placement.  The Garda vetting process will be completed in September with the assistance of the college Garda vetting unit.

Can this course be completed online or at night?2022-12-12T13:40:23+00:00
