Is the QQI Level 6 Advanced Health & Vocational Care Programme (AHVCP) a full-time day course taught online or taught on-site?2022-04-30T15:12:43+01:00

The AHVCP is delivered on-site in Cork College of FET (Morrison’s Island Campus) within the classroom.

I don’t have a Level 5 award, but I have much vocational experience in this area, am I eligible to apply for this programme?2022-04-30T15:18:50+01:00

Applicants must have a full QQI level 5 award in a relevant area, to be considered for the AHVCP programme. Vocational experience certainly supports an application, but on its own does not meet the entry requirements.

Must I be Garda Vetted for this course?2022-04-30T15:22:15+01:00

Yes. Garda vetting is an integral part of the application procedure for this course. It is a requirement for work placement and Garda Vetting from Cork ETB is required. The college Garda Vetting Office will assist you with your application.

Do I need Vaccinations for work experience?2022-04-30T15:34:47+01:00

This depends on where you organise your work placement, who should inform you if they have particular requirements.

Hepatitis B and flu vaccinations (others may be required in individual settings) are required for work experience in a healthcare setting. Applicants should be aware that healthcare environments used in work experience may insist that students are fully vaccinated for Covid 19.

Vaccinations are at the student’s own expense and administered outside of the College, organised by the student at a GP’s surgery/medical centre etc. Proof of Vaccinations may be required by the College Vaccination Office and work placement.

Must an applicant have completed a level 5 award to be eligible for the Advanced Health & Vocational Care Programme (AHVCP)?2022-04-30T15:16:23+01:00

Applicants should have a full QQI level 5 award in a relevant area of study

How many days per week is this full-time course, what should I expect?2022-04-30T15:19:14+01:00

Teaching occurs from 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Thursday and from 9.00am to 2.00pm on Fridays. Classes are of one hour duration.

However, class timetables vary and may be scheduled over 4 or 5 days. Starting times may be later than 9.00am and finishing times may be earlier than 5.00pm.

Individual class timetables are not available until Induction (usually 1st or 2nd week in September)

Upon completion of the course, and the successful achievement of the QQI Level 6 Advanced Health & Vocational care programme, where can employment be secured?2022-04-30T15:21:01+01:00

Graduates are well placed to secure roles delivering and supervising front line services , contributing to organisational planning, in social care, care homes, hospitals, private homecare sector and intellectual disability environments.

If my highest level of education is a Leaving Certificate, am I eligible to be considered for this AHVCP programme?2022-04-30T15:18:00+01:00

You would not be eligible to apply for the AHVCP programme & we would recommend that you consult our website and apply for a QQI Level 5 programme. When you have completed a level 5 award in a relevant area, you can then apply for a level 6 award

How long is this full-time day course?2022-04-30T15:19:49+01:00

The duration of the full-time day course is one academic year, typically from mid-September until mid-May. The college closes for Mid-term, Christmas and Easter holidays as determined by the Department of Education and Skills

What are the fees for this course?2022-04-30T15:35:15+01:00

€330 including QQI examination fees (€80). Medical card holders exempt from the €80. NON- EU FEE €3,654 + course fees above.

Is Work Experience/Placement organised by the College or do I have to find my own?2022-04-30T15:21:36+01:00

Work Experience/Placement is mandatory for this course. Students are required to source their own work placement.

Does the course offer a Student Visa for International Students?2022-04-30T15:36:38+01:00

No. Please note that it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that they meet Immigration and Visa requirements prior to applying for a place on a course. Post Leaving Certificate courses, such as this course, are not eligible to obtain a study visa to enter the state. Further details are available at www.icosirl.ie
