This is a two year apprenticeship programme aimed at school leavers, mature applicants and existing employees who are considering a career as as PSRA licenced auctioneering and property services professional. Participants work four days per week with an auctioneer, estate agent, property management or property letting business while paid by the employer, and attend classes in the college one day per week over two academic years.

STAGE 1

  • Valuations 1: This module aims to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skills and competences to understand the property market and interests in property. The learner shall demonstrate the ability to value property, through methods of valuation.
  • Valuations 2: This module aims to build on the strong foundation that the learner obtained in Valuations 1. The learner shall advance their skills of valuation. This module shall develop the learners’ knowledge of general principles of valuation and investment.
  • Estate Agency Practice: Learners are given an overview of the business of estate agency and a thorough knowledge and understanding of the role of a property services professional and of the range of property services provided by same.
  • Estate Agency Skills: The aim of this module is to provide the learner with an overview of the skills needed by an estate agent, a thorough understanding of how and why these are used by an estate agent in the provision of professional property services, and to provide the learner with hands-on experience of these skills in the workplace.
  • Marketing and Customer Service: The key principles of service marketing are introduced to the learner. The module aims to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skills and competences to deal effectively with internal and external customers’ queries which supports and advances the objectives of a Property Service business.
  • Economics for Property Services: Learners will be equipped with an understanding of the principles of economic theory and to apply it to a range of business scenarios, with particular emphasis on the property and construction industries.
  • ICT for Property Services: This module equips the learner, with knowledge, skills and competencies in Word processing, Digital Photography and Customer Relationship Management systems used in the delivery of property services.
  • Professional Development: Learners develop the relevant knowledge, skills and competence to develop professionally in the Property Services sector.
  • Law for Property Services 1: Learners shall develop an understanding of the Irish legal system and an appreciation of the terminology used in the legal profession with reference to property services. They learn about the principles and structure of the law as applicable to property service providers.

AWARD STAGE (Year 2)

  • Building Construction 1: This module aims is to provide the learner with a comprehensive understanding of the basic theory surrounding the different types of building construction methods typically used in Irish residential property and of the most common construction related issues as they affect a property professional in his/ her daily negotiations. It also aims to provide the learner with a thorough understanding of the process of a house build from green field to show house and of the current trends in the residential new build market.
  • Building Construction 2: This module aims to provide the learner with a first-hand understanding of the principles of building construction and technology. The module also aims to allow the learner to understand domestic drainage, domestic water, and sources of energy and BER certification. The module also aims to provide the learner with knowledge of construction techniques, such as roof construction, staircases, windows and finishes.
  • Sales and Marketing: This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to plan, prepare and execute sales and marketing plans which support and advance the objectives of a Property Services company.
  • Property Management 1: The module equips prepares learners for operating in the world of property as a business and of the different levels in which one can deal in property from a single property landlord to investors backing a Multi- Unit Development. The module will equip the learner with a thorough understanding of the role of a property manager and with a working knowledge of the different industry professionals in this sector.
  • Property Management 2: The module will equip the learner with a thorough understanding of the role of a property manager and with a working knowledge of the different industry professionals in this sector with work based focused learning and tasks.
  • Law for Property Services 2: Law 2 builds upon the foundational legal knowledge of Law 1, an understanding of which is required to operate in the property sector.
  • Professional Management Capstone: The Capstone module provides learners with the opportunity to work on an integrated project where they can demonstrate and highlight the skills, knowledge, competencies and experience they have accomplished over the two years of the apprenticeship to showcase their learning.

The minimum entry requirements are as follows:

  • Leaving Certificate Grade 06/H7 or above in 5 leaving certificate subjects or equivalent OR
  • A full QQI Level 5 or Level 6 Certificate in a Business Discipline or equivalent OR
  • Other relevant experience/employment (3 years) having reached the age of 19. Adjudicated on a case by case basis.
  • CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English

An offer of a place on this course is contingent on the applicant meeting the entry requirements, eligibility interview and being offered
an apprenticeship contract by a registered employer following an interview process.

On completion of the apprenticeship programme, learners may be eligible to apply for year 2 of the following degree courses:

  • BSc (Hons) Property Studies (Part-time), SCSI/TU Dublin
  • BSc (Ord) Auctioneering, Valuation and Estate Agency (Full-time) TU Dublin
  • BSc (Hons) Property Economics (Full-time) TU Dublin

NOTE: The above progression opportunities are in development and please contact SCSI/TU Dublin.

  • ATU(Sligo) (online part time): Certificate in Auctioneering & Estate Agency Practice L7

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, one can apply for a PSRA licence and be employed in a range of roles in auctioneering, estate agency and property management organisations. A person may also decide to do further study with a view to specialise.

Students will work with their employer for four days per week full-time during the college term, and 5 days a week full-time outside of college term 

Fees: €100 Student Services Contribution, all course fees are paid by the Government of Ireland.  Employer Incentive Grant is available to employers who hire an apprentice.

Certification: On successful completion of the apprenticeship, participants will receive a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Auctioneering and Property Services. Successful students are eligible to apply for a PSRA licence (all four categories). They can apply for Associate membership with SCSI and/or student membership of IPAV.
